Roto Frank of America and UConn Work Together for Workforce Development
As part of the ongoing collaboration between the University of Connecticut (UConn) and the manufacturing community, Chris Dimou, President & CEO of Roto Frank of America, Inc. and Larry McHugh, President of the Middlesex County Chamber of Commerce and chair of the UConn Board of Trustees, met with Mun Choi, Ph.D., UConn Provost and Executive Vice President, and other UConn officials on September 24 to discuss ideas for promoting workforce development, technical support for manufacturing and Identifying emerging technologies and capabilities.
The group also toured the Pratt & Whitney Additive Manufacturing Innovation Center (AMIC) on the UConn campus as part of a follow-up to meeting for members of the Middlesex County Chamber of Commerce Manufacturing Council held in May at Roto Frank of America to address the challenges of developing skilled workers to fill the growing availability of the number of jobs with higher level manufacturers in the state.
UConn is one of the leading institutions for additive manufacturing research and prototyping. Additive manufacturing is a process in which digital 3D design data is used to build up a component in layers by depositing a range of different metals, plastics and composite materials. By partnering with UConn, original equipment manufacturers and their suppliers can pursue faster prototyping and the integration of more advanced materials – both plastics and metals – in their products.
