ATHLETES WHO SAY NO – YMCA COLLABORATION
[Branford, August 14, 2015] – The Soundview Family YMCA, a Branch of the Central Connecticut Coast YMCA, welcomes the Athletes Who Say No program run by athlete, Chris Clark.
The Athletes Who Say No program was developed to inspire children to find an active, healthy passion and use their desire to constantly improve as a means for keeping their lives on track, making healthy decisions, and surrounding themselves with like- minded friends. Since the start of “Athletes Who Say No” Chris has had 110 performances and over 40,000 youth have been inspired by his message. The Athletes Who Say No ~ healthy lifestyle programs largely benefits youth ages 6 to 18. “We are excited to be collaborating with Chris Clark for this program. At the Y we work hard to help educate youth on living a healthy lifestyle and saying no to drugs and alcohol. This is a great program to help teach these skills to our youth”, said Doug Shaw – Executive Director at the Soundview Family YMCA.
There are four main points that Chris presents in the program:
1. Preventing youth from using drugs, alcohol, and tobacco by educating them on how it negatively affects their body and performance in sports.
2. The importance of bike and sports safety by using a helmet and other safety gear when riding or participating in other sports.
3. Encouraging youth to engage in an active lifestyle that helps to prevent childhood obesity.
4. Stressing the importance of finding friends who support your healthy lifestyle and avoiding those who detract from that goal.
