Westbrook’s Soccer Squads Start Season with Shutouts
Girls’ Soccer
The Westbrook girls’ soccer team also secured a big win over Amistad . The Knights outscored Amistad 8-0 to get the victory on Sept. 14.
Senior Christina Matute led the Knights with four goals, and sophomore Mackenzie Marshall scored on a penalty kick. Freshmen Adrianna Stranieri and Ava Ciarcia each scored a goal, as did senior Juliana Fabrizi scored.
Sophomore Julia Farnoli notched three assists, while freshman Mackenzie True got two. Sophomore Riley Metcalfe and senior Sophie Budgen had an assist apiece.
Time in goal was split between senior Callie Newberg, who made a save, and sophomore Alexandra Zanzalari, who made three saves.
Boys’ Soccer
Westbrook boys’ soccer earned its first win of the season in as many chances this past weekend. The Knights scored a big win with Westbrook outpacing Amistad by 4-0 on Sept. 14.
Field Hockey
The Knights began the fall campaign with a road game against Granby memorial last week. The Knights ended playing Granby to a 0-0 tie.
Goalkeeper Lauren Horne played a major role in preserving the tie for the Knights in that she made 10 saves on as many shots. Westbrook was unable to get a shot on goal.
