Old Saybrook Basketball Club Sees Two Teams Take League Titles
The Old Saybrook Basketball Club’s (OSBC) 7th- and 8th-grade boys’ basketball teams each won their respective league championships on March 3. The OSBC is proud of the team effort and commitment that the boys demonstrated throughout the season in order to achieve their goals. Both teams improved their records from last year and were rewarded for their hard work.
The players on Old Saybrook’s 8th-grade squad are Ajdin Cecunjanin, Cameron DeAngelo, Aidan Gilson, Michael Kapij, Bradley Kulmann, Felipe Moura, Carson Percival, Noah Skiles, Ryan Stratton, Aaron Tolve, and Logan Worman. Head Coach Mike Gilson is assisted by Mike Kapji and Steve Tolve.
In its championship contest, Old Saybrook notched a victory versus Haddam Killingworth in an exciting game that was decided in overtime. Old Saybrook was down 17-6, but fought back to get a 46-43 victory over H-K. Tolve scored 19 points, while Cecunjanin had nine points and Stratton scored eight points for Old Saybrook. Kulmann and DeAngelo added six points and four points, respectively, in the win. This group of players has been competing together since the 4th grade. They had a great finish to their careers at OSBC by posting a record of 13-3 this year.
The athletes on Old Saybrook’s 7th-grade team are Auggie Albert, Connor Cassella, Drew Kulmann, Connor Lane, Tynan McCarthy, Wes Nobile, Jacob Speed, London Sweeney, and Luke Webb. The team’s head coach is Mike Lane, and Dale Nobile is the assistant coach.
Old Saybrook defeated Haddam Killingworth by the score of 62-45 in its championship game. Lane scored 31 points for Old Saybrook in the victory. Kulmann had nine points; Albert, Webb, Nobile, Sweeney, and Speed all contributed four points; and Cassella added two points. The team finished its season with a record of 13 wins and two defeats.
The OSBC congratulates its teams on their successful seasons and thanks the players, coaches, and parents for their efforts throughout the year. The OSBC also thanks Old Saybrook Public Schools for its continued support.
