T-Birds’ Girls’ Soccer Loses on PKs in Shoreline Semis; Boys’ Soccer Earns Tie with Amistad
Girls’ Soccer
Last week, the North Branford girls’ soccer squad entered the Shoreline Conference Tournament looking to defend the league title that it won last year. The Thunderbirds hosted Cromwell for a semifinal game on Oct. 31 and took a 1-0 defeat in game that came down to penalty kicks, where the Panthers prevailed by a 4-2 margin.
North Branford, which has an overall record of 9-3-5, earned the No. 12 seed in the Class M State Tournament and will host No. 21 Law in its first-round matchup on Monday, Nov. 5. With a win, the Thunderbirds will play the winner of No. 5 Morgan and No. 28 Waterford in the second round on Wednesday, Nov. 7. The quarterfinals are scheduled for Friday, Nov. 9 with the semifinals set for either Monday, Nov. 12 or Tuesday, Nov. 13. The Class M state final will be played on Saturday, Nov. 17.
Boys’ Soccer
North Branford finished its season by hosting Amistad last week. The Thunderbirds earned a 1-1 tie against Amistad in a non-conference contest on Oct. 29.
Sophomore captain Andrew Sellitto scored the lone goal of the game to help the T-Birds earn the draw. North Branford finished its season with a record of 0-13-1.
Volleyball
The 8th-seeded Thunderbirds lost a 3-0 (25-16, 25-20, 25-10) contest at No. 1 seed Coginchaug in the Shoreline Conference Tournament semifinals on Oct. 29.
Sally Cucinotta had three kills and two aces, while junior Katy Pedersen recorded 10 digs for North Branford, which finished with a record of 2-18 on the year.
Football
North Branford dropped a 34-8 decision against Old Saybrook-Westbrook in a Pequot Conference Sassacus Division game at Old Saybrook High School on Nov. 3. North Branford is now 2-6 overall and 1-5 in the division.
Next up, North Branford will play its final home game of the season when the T-Birds host Stafford-East Windsor-Somers (8-0) at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 9.
