Adrenaline is an incredible thing. It can facilitate exercise, increase your heart rate, boost your metabolism, and improve your mood. It's a natural side-effect of pushing ourselves to try new things or improve on what we already know.
So, it should come as no surprise that the staff at Action Sports in Branford and Old Saybrook is always ready, willing, and excited to help you. What makes them so happy? They don't just sell the equipment—they personally test the various brands and latest technology as they follow their passions for biking, kayaking, stand-up paddling, skiing, and snowboarding. For them, the quality of the store's merchandise is paramount to having the best experience they, and therefore you, can have.
If you've tried any of these sports or consider them part of your routine, you know how they make you feel—and it's not just how they affect you physically. The mental stimulation that comes from these activities is part adrenaline, but also about mustering up just the right amount of focus as you push your body to work a little harder.
"My philosophy from the inception of Action Sports in 1976 has been to offer quality merchandise with the best selection possible, competitive pricing, and an expertly trained and certified professional sales staff,' says owner Paul von Maffei. "I also believe that by employing certified master mechanics, coupled with the latest in technical equipment, we are able to provide unparalleled service to our customers."
Von Maffei opened his first store almost 50 years ago, then moving it to its current location "on the hill" in Branford a few years later. His love of outdoor sports and background in the ski industry helped him create what Action Sports is today. Von Maffei's love of sailing keeps him out on the water, racing on Long Island Sound off the Branford coastline during most summer weekends and leaving his expert management team to oversee the successful clothing, equipment, and maintenance sporting businesses. His management and sales team all come with years of experience in their sport or sports of choice, which makes for an eclectic group of extremely knowledge, passionate, goal-driven individuals to help you to find the right fit and style in equipment or clothing, whether it be a fishing kayak or a pair of ski boots.
As the summer begins with biking season, Action Sports will not only find the right bike for you, but also has a repair shop for tune-ups or maintenance for the one you have. Action Sports has many trade-in, trade-up, or rent me programs. Von Maffei believes that if you have the passion for a sport, Action Sports will provide a way for you to have the proper equipment to play it.
