Go-To Guide: What’s Your Favorite Takeout, and Where Do You Take It?
There isn't much I love more than a lobster roll from Lobster Landing in Clinton. It's fun to make an elegant evening of it and bring a tablecloth, plates, silverware, good wine, and side dishes. All of that along with one of Bacci's incredible lobster rolls and a table overlooking the harbor makes for a perfect night on the shoreline. —Jocelyn Ruggiero
Harvey's Beach in Old Saybrook—grab some bread and cheese from Fromage, nose your car up to the sand, and watch the sun set. —Brian Boyd
When I'm at the beach, I like to call the Shoreline Diner and have them deliver, right to the beach. —Pem McNerney
Home Restaurant in Branford (love their seasonal fish tacos). I take it to the Branford Green if the weather is nice. —Robyn Collins
RIP, Tissa's Moroccan Market, which was the best on the shore until it closed recently. Mindy-K's in Old Saybrook, with its eclectic mix of Thai and traditional sandwiches and quick meals, is a good alternative. I'm particularly fond of their Thai chicken wrap with shredded carrots and peanut sauce. If I don't bring it home for consumption on the backyard deck, Founders Memorial Park, overlooking the mouth of the Connecticut River in Saybrook, is my next choice. —Mike Urban
Also Worth a Visit:
Liuzzi Cheese in North Haven isn't just for house-made cheese; it's a gourmet's dream destination for pretty much all the ingredients you need for a picnic at Peter's Rock Park or dinner at home.
Simon's Marketplace in Chester and Westbrook has perfect meals in the making—but whatever you get, try the buttered, salted baguette.
La Cuisine in Branford—lots of people have enjoyed their catering, but La Cuisine runs a café that offers reliably excellent lunch or dinner to go.
Sugar Bakery in East Haven—OK, so it's hard to make a meal of cupcakes, but that wouldn't stop us from picking up a four-pack or two and heading to the East Haven Town Beach Pavilion for a nice nosh.
