Guy Kilpatrick
Guy Holton Kilpatrick of 31-F Liberty Street, New Haven, died Feb. 24, 2024, at Yale New Haven Hospital after a brief illness. He was 80 years old. He is survived by brothers Robert of Old Saybrook, William of Ave Maria, Florida, and Yohannan of Westbrook, and his daughter-in-law Eurose Lallen of New Haven. He was predeceased by his wife, Noli Arellano-Kilpatrick, and stepson Keith Lallen.
He grew up in Hartford in the Asylum Hill neighborhood. The family moved to Clinton when he was 12. A year later, the Kilpatricks moved to Stannard Hill in Westbrook, where Guy was one of the first students to attend the new Westbrook High School. He was proud of his work as production manager of a high school play. After graduating from Southern Connecticut State University, Guy headed to Fort McCoy, Florida, and taught school before returning to Connecticut. A rabid Red Sox fan, he once became so overwrought that he stamped his foot to the floor so hard that he sprained his ankle. He was part-owner of a 92-acre forest in Cape Breton Island, Canada. His marriage to Noli didn’t come until Guy was in his 50s. The couple did a lot of traveling and sightseeing. On a trip to Noli’s hometown, Davao, in the Philippines, Guy became intrigued with the growing of mangoes. Noli’s early death was a great loss for him. He joined the Liberty Square Coop Board of Directors and became deeply engaged in detailed operations since the Coop had decided to do without a management company to save money.
Guy’s apartment was the same one that had been occupied by the family since 1967. Guy retired several years ago from driving school buses for New Haven Public Schools. Earlier, he had worked as a bookkeeper. Guy enjoyed growing roses in the backyard. He became an expert in knowing how to grow them correctly.
A Mass in his memory will be said at St. Mark Church, Westbrook. Burial will be in Cypress Cemetery, Old Saybrook. A date for a memorial service will be announced. Donations in his memory may be made to Christian Community Action, 168 Davenport Ave., New Haven, CT 06519.
