Joseph Polletta
Joseph Polletta, 98, of North Haven, formerly of West Haven, passed away peacefully on Nov. 15, 2023, at the Connecticut Hospice, Branford. He was the beloved husband of 69 years to the late Mary “Jean” Ruggiero Polletta. Joseph was born in New Haven on Oct. 21, 1925, and was the son of the late John and Caroline Fusco Polletta.
He served his country faithfully in the U.S. Army and was a Communications Sergeant during World War II. Joseph had worked as an electrician for IBEW Local 90. He was a member and former president of the St. Louis Church men’s club in West Haven, American Legion Post 76, and was an avid bowler and former president of his bowling league. Joseph also enjoyed fishing and hunting.
His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and, most of all, his great-grandchildren, whom he loved unconditionally. He was the father-in-law of Ann G. Polletta, grandfather of Jennifer (Anthony) Menillo and Lauren (Robert) Kowalewski, and grandfather of Anthony, Connor, Briana, and Aubrey. He was predeceased by his son, John Robert Polletta; his brother, Edmund Polletta; and sisters, Rita Gassira and Gloria D’Amato.
The visiting hours were on Nov. 20 at The Havens Family, North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in St. Elizabeth of the Trinity Parish at St. Frances Cabrini Church, 57 Pond Hill Road, North Haven. Interment with full military honors followed in All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O.
