Catello James Cuticello
Catello James Cuticello, 75, a resident of Fort Myers, Florida, and Durham, passed peacefully May 14. Born in New Haven on Feb. 5, 1948, to the late Vincenzo James Cuticello and Lillian (Concilio) Cuticello. Widely known as “CJ” he was the loving husband of Debra Vaiuso Cuticello for 48 years.
CJ had made many accomplishments throughout his life, a successful banking career at First Bank of New Haven, serving as the tax collector of the City of New Haven, retiring in 2009, graduating from Albertus Magnus College with a B.S., MSM, MBA then continued to teach money and banking, and business ethics at the college, a veteran of the U.S. Army National Guard serving in the historic 102nd Infantry Battalion as a radio operator, a member of the Saint Catello Society of New Haven, who Honored him with an appreciation award in 2015, and also a member of the Secular Franciscian Order.
It should be noted that although he accomplished many tangible achievements, his head, and his heart were deeply devoted to his friends and family. He and his wife enjoyed travel and made regular trips to Bermuda.
CJ is survived by his wife Debra; his children, son Jamie (Meghan) Cuticello of Guilford and daughter Jill Cuticello of Brooklyn, New York; grandchildren, Max, Finn, and Hunter Cuticello; and a sister Rosalie (Frank) Merola of Fort Myers, Florida. He was predeceased by his sister Irene (Edward) Flynn. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews, Anne Merola, Francis Merola, Mark Merola, Edward Flynn III, and Kathlene DelVisco. He was also the beloved son-in-law of the late Carl and Theresa Vaiuso.
Friends are invited to calling hours from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 18, at the Guilford Funeral Home, 115 Church St, Guilford. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, May 19, at St. George Church, 33 Whitfield St, Guilford, followed by Military Honors. Burial will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery, 280 Derby Ave, West Haven.
