George J. Owler, 84, of North Haven, passed away peacefully on April 25 at Yale New Haven Hospital with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of 58 years to Patricia Mitchell Owler. He was born in New Haven on Aug. 14, 1937, the son of the late James and Margaret McDonnell Owler.
George proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps. He worked as an office manager at Parker X-Ray for many years until his retirement. George attended the University of Connecticut and was a big fan of Notre Dame football and UConn basketball. He enjoyed spending time with his family, having taken many vacations with them over the years, but he especially loved spending time with his grandchildren, who were the apples of his eye.
He was the loving father of Kathleen Owler, James (Janet) Owler, and Deborah (Richard) McCarthy; doting grandfather of Emma Owler and Griffin McCarthy; brother of Mary Lau; and brother-in-law of William (Eleanor) Mitchell, Regina (Robert) Vitelli, and the late Thomas (Kathleen) Mitchell. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
The visiting hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, April 29, at The Havens Family, North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 30, in St. Elizabeth of the Trinity Parish at St. Frances Cabrini Church, 57 Pond Hill Road, North Haven.
