William J. Charboneau. 82, Middlefield
William J. Charboneau, 82, of Middlefield, died on Oct. 20, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of 60 years to Mary Ellen (Hupfer) Charboneau and son of the late Joseph and Marcella (Flory) Charboneau, formerly of Middlefield. Bill spent his childhood in Baltimore, Maryland, where he and Mary Ellen met in grade school, marrying in 1951. Bill graduated in 1951 from Loyola College, Baltimore, Maryland, with a bachelor’s degree in business administration.
A Korean War veteran, Bill served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954. He was a partner at Ripps Realty in property management, and prior to his retirement, he managed the Davenport-Dunbar elderly housing in Hamden. He was also the current chairman of the Middlefield Housing Authority, having volunteered since 2003 to make housing affordable for all citizens.
Bill loved to play golf, and he loved boating, reading, and dancing. He will be remembered as a loving and generous husband, dad, granddad, and friend to many.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his children, Mary Ann Notarangelo and her husband Richard of Rockfall, Joan Santos and her husband Rick of Middlefield, Thomas Charboneau and his wife Jeanne of North Attleboro, Massachusetts, and Cathy Morrone and her husband Tom of North Haven. He is also survived by his 10 adoring grandchildren, Michael Notarangelo and his wife Liz, Richard Notarangelo and his wife Sarah, Stephen Notarangelo, Gregory and Michelle Santos, Christopher, David, and Nicholas Charboneau, and Paul and Kelly Morrone.
His funeral procession left the North Haven Funeral Home on Oct. 24 for a mass of Christian burial at St. Colman Church, Middlefield. Burial with full military honors took place in the Middlefield Cemetery.
