William A. Start, 93, Beverly Hills, Florida, formerly of West Haven and Madison
William A. Start, 93 of Beverly Hills, Florida, formerly of West Haven and Madison, a beloved brother and uncle, died on June 20 at the Heaven Scent Rest Home in Homosassa, Florida. William was born in Vineland, New Jersey, on Aug. 13, 1917, son of the late J.W. and Jessie L. Alling Start. He was a native of Allingtown and had resided in Beverly Hills, Florida, since 1985.
William was a World War II veteran who had served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army. He was also retired from the former Grand Union supermarket in West Haven, where he had worked as a bakery manager.
William was a lifetime member of American Legion Post No. 79 of Madison, VFW Post No. 10087 of Beverly Hills, Florida, the Bakers Association Alumni, Kansas City, Missouri, the National Geographic Society, and the Sons of the American Revolution, Chapter 5821 of Withalocooche, Florida. Other memberships included the National Parks Preservation and the Guilford Baptist Church. In addition, William served in the Connecticut National Guard, 1941.
His family extends a special thanks to the Heaven Scent Adult Family Center of Homosassa, Florida, the HPH Center of Beverly Hills, Florida, and to Barbara Sciarrette, a neighbor from Beverly Hills, Florida.
William is survived by his sister, Henrietta Figlewski of Cape Coral, Florida; his nephew, Stanley A. Figlewski and his wife Deborah P. of Rocky Mount, North Carolina; his niece, Sharon Figlewski of East Haven; and several grandnephews and a grandniece.
There will be no calling hours. A graveside service with military honors will be held on Tuesday, July 12, at Beaverdale Memorial Park, New Haven, officiated by The Rev. Matthew Lincoln. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Heaven Scent Rest Home, 5310 S. Bayliner Point, Homosassa, FL 34446. The Torello-Iacobucci Washington Memorial Funeral Home, North Haven, is in charge of arrangements.
