Please Support Your Community News Site's COVID Coverage

The coronavirus crisis has nearly halted the local economy — including media advertising. That means local, independent news organizations such as ours must fight for our own survival while continuing to provide critical news and information as a public service during this unprecedented situation. If you believe local reporting is important and you're able to lend support during this pandemic, click here for info on making a tax-deductible donation.

Mary Lomartra passed away peacefully with her family by her side June 19 at her home in Branford. She was the beloved wife of Anthony Lomartra. Mrs. Lomartra was born June 11, 1938, in New Haven, daughter of the late James and Lucy Porto Rocco.

She worked as a crossing guard at Branford Hills Elementary School and then as a physical therapy aide at Branford Hills Health Care Center for many years until retiring. She enjoyed her trips to the casino, going on cruises with her husband, and going to Disney World with her family.

She had great love for her family, including her children Dr. Catherine Lomartra (John Byar), Joanne DiFormato (Paul), and Lisa Bailey (Jeff); her grandchildren Natalie Marie Oncel (Ozy), Kimberly Ann Phillips, Nicole Marie Phillips, Justin Anthony Bailey, and Austin Richard Bailey; her sister Patricia Hastings; and her brother Michael Rocco. She was predeceased by her sister Gloria Coppola and her brothers James and Anthony Rocco.

Her family would like to thank everyone at Connecticut Hospice for the extraordinary compassion and care shown to Mary during her final illness.

Funeral services are private at the convenience of her family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Connecticut Hospice, 100 Double Beach Rd., Branford, CT 06405. For an online memorial and guestbook, see
