Gertrude “Trudy” M. Wimmer, 90, of Guilford, wife of the late Rev. Dr. Harold R. Wimmer, passed away Feb. 12 after a brief illness. Trudy was born in Fort Dodge, Iowa, on May 19, 1929, a daughter of the late Carl J. and Bess Wood Schultz. She is survived by her children Bonnie (Brett) Hendricks, Patricia (Jeffrey) Allen, and Mark (Kathy) Wimmer; her grandchildren Katie Ward, Matthew Allen, and Mike and Chris Wimmer; and great-grandchildren Michael and Mallory Wimmer. She was predeceased by her brother Rev. John Schultz.

Trudy established a fulfilling career in the nursing field, first receiving her training at Faulker Hospital in Boston and later returning to school to become a nurse practitioner. She held many nursing jobs, including working at the VA Hospital in West Haven and running a geriatric clinic for St. Francis Hospital in Hartford. She was an avid swimmer and reader, and enjoyed spending summers with her family at her Leetes Island cottage. She truly cherished her friends and family from the Y, the Guilford Senior Center, Curves, her church, Leetes Island, and the Roses of Guilford House, and will be missed by them all.

A memorial service was held on Feb. 16. Burial will be private. Should friends desire, contributions in Trudy’s memory may be made to Bethesda Lutheran Church, 305 Saint Ronan St., New Haven, CT 06511. Arrangements were in the care of Beecher & Bennett Funeral Home, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden. For more information or to send a condolence, please visit
