Eleanor L. Zurkus of Branford died peacefully Aug. 1 at Apple Rehab in Guilford. She was the wife of the late Joseph E. Zurkus. Mrs. Zurkus was born July 9, 1919, in New Haven, daughter of the late John and Josephine Levenduski Kosobiecki.
She worked at A.C. Gilbert’s for many years prior to retiring. Later she served as a lunch aide in the Branford school system.
She is survived by her daughter Carol Kaminsky of Branford and her daughter–in-law Judy Zurkus of Guilford. Known as Babci to her grandchildren, she leaves Karen (Jim) Hannon, Kristen (Gary) Czaplicki, Jennifer (Chris) Haverly, Joseph (Kacy) Zurkus, and Jeanine (Nicholas) Bisesti; eight great-grandchildren; and her sister Ceil Hopski of Branford. She was predeceased by her son Joseph “Buddy” Zurkus, her great-granddaughter Kayden, and her sisters Jennie Chernovetz, Catherine Dana, Lucy Pawlowicz, Martha Gregorowicz, Mary Lincoln, and Dorothy Porto.
Her funeral procession left the W.S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 N. Main St., Branford, Aug. 5 for a Mass of Christian burial in St. Mary Church. Burial followed in St. Agnes Cemetery. Friends called prior to the funeral.
