Elizabeth Ann Pratt (Readdie) of Southbury died peacefully on Feb. 20, surrounded by her family at Pomperaug Health Center. Betsy was 88, and was born in Brooklyn, New York, on March 5, 1928.
She attended Traphagen School of Fashion in New York, New York. She married Frederick Bunting in 1951 and had two sons, James Robert and John Richard Bunting. She and Frederick divorced in 1974. She married Carroll Pratt in 1976. Betsy worked as buyer for Abraham and Strauss in New York until moving to Norwalk, where she worked for the Norwalk school system as the librarian at Broad River Elementary School. She shared her passion for reading with children for more than 20 years. Betsy was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and was affectionately known as Ma, Grammy, Manya, and Little Grammy.
She is survived by her sons Rob and wife Rebecca, and Rick and wife Sherron; grandchildren Christopher and wife Alicia, Jeremy and wife Jess, and Colin and longtime girlfriend Megan; and great-grandchildren Valen, Elliot, Maisy, Archer, and Baron. She was predeceased by her sister Jean Talcott, husband Carroll, stepdaughter Anne Pratt, and grandson Michael Bunting.
Christmas will never be the same without Betsy’s lovingly baked array of Christmas cookies.
A memorial service is tentatively planned for May, and will be held in Norwalk at the United Congregational Church, 275 Richards Ave., date to be announced.
