Essex Garden Club Helps Celebrate the Holidays
Decorating the town for the holidays is a great example of civic beautification. Each November, as part of its mission of civic beautification, Essex Garden Club members cut greens from their gardens and the gardens of generous neighbors and spend a morning decorating the window boxes and planters of the Town Hall and the merchants, the Silent Policeman and the Gazebo in Town Park, contributing to Essex being named one of “The 30 Most Magical Christmas Towns in the U.S.” by Country Living Magazine.
Then, as part of their holiday party, club members bring non-perishable food items or checks for the Shoreline Soup Kitchens and Pantries. This year, 211 pounds of food were donated and delivered to the food bank, along with checks valued at $1,775. The Gowrie Group will generously match this amount for a total of $3,550.
