Shore Publishing/Zip06.com News Team Recognized for Excellence in Journalism
The Shore Publishing/Zip06 team of journalists has once again received accolades for excellence from our peers. The Connecticut Society of Professional Journalists announced the winners of its 2022 Excellence in Journalism Awards on June 10, recognizing our reporters, photographers, and columnists with 14 honors, including seven first place awards.
Shore Publishing competes in the Hyperlocal category, which includes both weekly print publications and online organizations.
Chief of Photography Wesley Bunnell dominated the photography category, earning three first place awards: Feature Photo, "North Pole Bound"; Photo Essay, "Snowy Night for the North Pole Express"; and Sports Photo, "Victory Under a Harvest Moon."
Senior Staff Writer Pam Johnson took two first place awards, earning recognition in the Arts and Entertainment category for her article “A Shepherd, a Showman, and So Much More” as well as the article “From Afghanistan to Branford: Sadats Supported by Branford Volunteers” in the Feature Story category. Johnson also received second place awards in three categories, Breaking News for “One Dead in Branford Motel Shooting,” In Depth for “Parkside Groundbreaking Celebrates Affordable Housing in Branford,” and Local Reporting for “Residents Air Brewery Concert Noise Concerns.”
Living Editor Pem McNerney received first place recognition in the Business category for “The Theater Belongs to the Community.“ McNerney also was recognized with second place wins in three categories, Arts and Entertainment for ”When You Say American Cuisine, What Do You Mean?“, Feature Story for ”Music Saved His Life,“ abnd Health for ”Food, Wine, Celebrity, Depression.“
Shore Publishing’s columnists swept the Humorous Column category, earning both first and second place wins. Juliana Gribbins was awarded first place for “Dad, Godzilla, and the Great Summer Road Trip,” and Rita Christopher was awarded second place for “But It Was on Sale!”
