Branford Primary Elections Aug. 9
Branford voters registered as members of the Democratic or Republican parties can go to the polls Tuesday, August 9 for primary races to select statewide and other Democratic and Republican candidates seeking to be on the November 8, 2022 election ballot.
Branford’s 7 polling district sites will be open on Aug. 9 from 6 a.m. - 8 p.m. for voters.
With incumbent CT Secretary of State Denise Merrill (D) not running for reelection, the Aug. 9 primary asks Democrats to choose among candidates Stephanie Thomas and Maritza Bond to be their November candidate. Republicans will choose among Dominic Rapini, Brock Weber or Terrie E. Wood.
As incumbent State Treasurer Shawn Wooden (D) isn’t running for reelection, the Aug. 9 primaries will determine which new Democratic candidate will face GOP State Treasurer candidate Harry Arora in November. The Aug. 9 Democratic primary candidates for State Treasure are Erick Russell, Dita Bhargava and Karen DuBois-Walton.
On Aug. 9, only those Branford Democrats represented by state General Assembly District 98 will choose between Moira Rader and Andy Gottlieb to help determine the party’s November candidate for District 98 State Representative. District 98 represents Guilford and sections of Stony Creek and Pine Orchard in Branford. Current Rep. Sean Scanlon (D, District 98) is stepping down to run for State Comptroller.
Additionally, Branford Republicans will vote on Aug. 9 to help select the GOP candidate who will run against incumbent U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal for CT’s 3rd District Congressional seat in November. Republican candidates on the Aug. 9 ballot are Themis Klarides, Leora R. Levy and Peter Lumaj.
