First Congregational Church in Madison Supported Community Needs in 2021
The First Congregational Church in Madison, the Church on the Green at 26 Meetinghouse Lane, continued its nearly 40-year relationship with Christian Community Action (CCA) in New Haven this past Christmas season by donating gifts for 16 families.
The Christmas donation follows a Thanksgiving donation of 43 turkeys and food to help CCA to distribute a total of 1,300 food baskets for families they serve. The church, through its outreach team, also partners with CCA on other projects throughout the year, conducts a weekly nonperishable food collection and provides an annual donation.
The First Congregational Church is also proud to announce that the total collection from three Christmas Eve services has been donated to two causes: The United Way of Southern Kentucky received about $850 to help those displaced from the tornadoes and storms that ripped through that area in December, and an additional $850 was donated to the Christmas Fund of the UCC, which supports retired clergy and their families with such things as medical bills, heating assistance, etc.
“It is vitally important to live out our faith in actions like this, as well as belief,” said FCC Minister of Community Life Reverend Sarah Vetter.
The active congregation at First Congregational Church hopes to continue its strong tradition of helping others as it did in 2021. Along with local donations and support, FCC assisted in such efforts as a $5,000 donation to support its ministry to the asylum-seeking family from the Congo, donations to COVID relief funds, money and support to the Women & Family Life Center, and backpacks and duffle bags put together for women and men recently released from prison.
The First Congregational Church also proudly celebrated 20 years of being an open and affirming congregation in 2021.
