Players Making the Most of Additional Pickleball Courts at Branford's Foote Park
Players are making the most of the recent addition of more pickleball courts that have been striped in on some regulation play tennis courts at Foote Park in Branford, said Parks and Recreation Director Alex Palluzzi Jr.
A couple of weeks ago, four more pickleball courts were striped in on either side of some of the park's regulation tennis courts, creating a total of 8 pickleball courts now available for play. With less ground to cover and lighter equipment involved, many people -- especially middle aged and above -- are flocking to play the popular game at Foote Park, said Palluzzi.
The net which divides the pickleball court into two sides for players is slightly lower and spans a smaller area than regulation tennis nets. The paddleball sport uses a ball much like a wiffle ball and combines elements of badminton, table tennis, and tennis. Two or four players can play the game as singles or doubles.
"It's great to see them out there, having fun," said Palluzzi.
