Legacy Theatre Restoration Supported by CT Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credit
Branford, April 30, 2019: The Legacy Theatre is thrilled to announce that its long-awaited restoration of the historic Stony Creek Puppet House Theatre will be supported in part by the Connecticut Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credit Program as administered by the State Historic Preservation Office. The Tax Credit Program establishes a 25 percent tax credit on the hard costs associated with the rehabilitation of a Certified Historic Structure.
"We are so grateful to the State Historic Preservation Office for recognizing and supporting our efforts. We couldn't be more excited about restoring this historic theater to entertain and educate our community," said Keely Baisden Knudsen, Artistic Director, The Legacy Theatre.
The Legacy Theatre is raising $4.2 million dollars to restore the theatre to a state-of-the-art neighborhood theater arts center. Since 2011, the Legacy has delighted the community with more than 50 theatrical productions, numerous classes, workshops and in-school programs and acting workshops. Their latest innovation is a pilot project, Wheel Life Theatre Troupe, for those who ambulate with wheels or crutches.
"Though I am on the opposite side of town, I absolutely believe a local theater can be a vital asset as a builder of community. And this one especially, with its roots going way back. Congratulations!" said Anne Calabresi, co-founder of Leadership, Education and Athletics in Partnership (LEAP) and the International Festival of Arts and Ideas.
The Legacy Theatre is a professional theater company that enhances the Connecticut's Shoreline's economy, educational opportunities and quality of life through live theater and related programs.
