Some work in the area of downtown Guilford took a terrible turn last week, resulting in the death of a 46-year-old male employee of a private company who sustained fatal injuries during a work site incident.

According to a press release from the Guilford Police Department, on July 19 at around 1:50 p.m. Guilford Police and Fire personnel were dispatched to the area of State Street and Little Meadow Road for a reported work site incident.

Guilford Fire and Rescue attempted life-saving care while transporting the individual to Yale New Haven Hospital, but his injuries proved to severe and he succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

Police did not comment on the nature of the work that led to the incident, though tree removal or trimming services had been spotted in the area in the days prior to the incident. At this time the incident remains under investigation at this time by Guilford Police in conjunction with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

As of press time, the identity of the victim is being withheld until the family is notified and an autopsy by the State Medical Examiner scheduled to determine exact cause and manner of death.
