Police Incident Report for June 6 to 13
The Harbor News publishes a Police Incident Report to inform residents of incidents, criminal activities, and police responses occurring in the towns of Clinton, Westbrook, and Old Saybrook. As those charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty, the report does not include names. It may be edited for space and content.
Clinton
Wednesday, June 6
• A 32 year-old New York man was arrested at 7 p.m. and charged with organized retail theft for an amount less than $10,000, engaging police in pursuit, conspiracy to commit larceny in the third degree, illegal possession of a shoplifting device, and interfering with an officer/resisting arrest following an investigation on Killingworth Turnpike.
• A larceny was investigated at 50 Liberty Street at 1:33 p.m. A walk-in complainant to police headquarters reported that she was scammed out of money on the Internet.
• Violation of a protective order was investigated at Founders Village at 1:45 p.m.
• A larceny was investigated on the 100 block of West Main Street at 2:28 p.m. A woman reported that she loaned a small amount of money ($70) to two men while she was hospitalized, and that she believed they spent the money on drugs. She stated that she now wants the money back. She was told this was not a police matter. She then stated that she would sue the men for the money.
• A shoplifting incident was investigated at 20 Killingworth Turnpike at 5:39 p.m. An employee at Adidas witnessed the theft of items by two women who left in a black Dodge Journey SUV. The employee did not file a formal report because Adidas does not pursue shoplifting incidents per corporate policy, according to what police were told. Police checked the area, but could not locate the suspect vehicle.
Thursday, June 7
• A 57 year-old Middletown man was arrested at 6:15 p.m. and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs and failure to grant right of way at an intersection.
• A burglary was investigated at 2 Sterling Drive at 5:28 a.m. A caller reported that his passport and social security card were taken from his unlocked vehicle, a 2002 BMW 330XI, while it was parked in his driveway.
• Criminal mischief was investigated at 18 Elsie Lane at 8:44 a.m. A mailbox post was cracked during the overnight hours. Police learned that an elderly neighbor accidentally backed into the mailbox and attempted to tell the owner earlier, but no one was home. The woman stated that she would pay for a new mailbox.
• A complaint about animal bites was investigated on Airline Road at 3:37 p.m. Middlesex Hospital Shoreline Medical Clinic in Westbrook reported to Clinton police that a man in its facility was bitten by his neighbor’s two dogs at 11 Airline Road in Clinton. One dog bit him on the left leg and the other bit him on the right hand.
• A burglary was investigated at 2 Sterling Drive at 5:28 a.m.
• A larceny was investigated at 7 Glenwood Road at 5:13 p.m.
Friday, June 8
• A 41 year-old New Haven man was arrested at 6:08 p.m. on a warrant charging him with failure to pay or plead a citation.
• A 21 year-old woman of Nod Road was arrested at 9:30 p.m. on a warrant charging her with failure to appear in the second degree.
Saturday, June 9
• A 49 year-old man of Grove Way was arrested at 8:22 p.m. and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs and failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple lane highway following a motor vehicle stop on Killingworth Turnpike.
Sunday, June 10
No arrests were made.
• A larceny via shoplifting was investigated at 90 West Main Street at 12:42 p.m.
• A larceny via shoplifting was investigated at 218 East Main Street at 7:42 p.m.
Monday, June 11
No arrests were made.
• A larceny was investigated at 174 Beach Park Road at 5:13 p.m. Several power tools were stolen from a shed. The complainant believed that his daughter’s boyfriend stole the items.
• A shoplifting incident was investigated at 20 Killingworth Turnpike at 7:01 p.m. The theft of items at Calvin Klein was discovered during a store audit.
Tuesday, June 12
No arrests were made.
• A larceny was investigated at 215 East Main Street at 8:32 a.m. A bicycle belonging to an employee of Dunkin Donuts was stolen from behind the store. A video showed a white male wearing a black hoodie and tan cargo shorts taking the bike at 6:13 a.m. that morning.
• Police escorted school staff during a visit to a home on Fairy Dell Road at 8:34 a.m. The home was visited due to extreme truancy of a juvenile at the residence.
Wednesday, June 13
No arrests were made.
• A complaint about two juveniles on bicycles riding through the neighborhood spraying shaving cream on the road and people’s yards was investigated on Wildwood Park at 4:08 p.m.
• A larceny was investigated at 13 Mary Mac Loop at 5:16 p.m.
• A shoplifting incident involving two females was investigated at 20 Killingworth Turnpike at 8:13 p.m.
Westbrook
Wednesday, June 6
• A 39 year-old Middletown man was issued a misdemeanor summons at 9:02 p.m. for operating a motor vehicle while under license or registration suspension and traveling unreasonably fast following a motor vehicle stop traveling at 55 miles per hour in a 35 mile per hour zone.
• A 25 year-old Lyme man was arrested on a warrant charging him driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs and failure to obey a stop sign.
Thursday, June 7 to Friday, June 8
No arrests were made.
Saturday, June 9
• A 25 year-old man of Trolley Road was arrested at 12:54 a.m. and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs and failure to drive upon the right following a motor vehicle crash. He agreed to, and failed, a standardized field sobriety test.
• A 51 year-old Old Lyme man was arrested at 8:20 a.m. and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs and speeding following a motor vehicle stop. He agreed to, and failed, a standardized field sobriety test.
Sunday, June 10
No arrests were made.
Monday, June 11
• A 32 year-old New London woman was arrested at 2:19 a.m. and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, operating a motor vehicle while under license or registration suspension, and failure to drive upon the right following a motor vehicle stop after she was observed driving erratically.
Tuesday, June 12
No arrests were made.
Wednesday, June 13
• A 58 year-old man of Gaithersburg, Maryland was arrested at 1:47 a.m. and charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, drinking while driving, and failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple lane highway. He was operating a gray GMC Acadia erratically when stopped. He agreed to and failed a standardized field sobriety test.
• A 27 year-old Meriden man was arrested at 6:03 p.m. on warrants charging him with failure to appear in the first degree and three counts of failure to appear in the second degree. The warrants were discovered during a traffic stop. He was processed on a combined $27,500 surety bond amount.
Old Saybrook
Wednesday, June 6
• A 21 year-old Middletown man was arrested at 12:29 a.m. and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs and failure to maintain the proper lane of a multiple lane highway following a motor vehicle stop of Middlesex Turnpike at Bokum Road.
Thursday, June 7
• A 17 year-old was arrested at 2:23 p.m. and charged with use or possession of drug paraphernalia. The juvenile was processed and released the custody of a parent.
• A 47 year-old Moodus man was arrested at 5:10 p.m. and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, failure to wear a seat belt in the front seat, failure to have stop/turn signals, and having a defective windshield.
• A 41 year-old Clinton woman was issued a misdemeanor summons at 11:53 a.m. for operating a motor vehicle without a driver’s license and traveling unreasonably fast following a motor vehicle stop on Route 154 at Bokum Road.
Friday, June 8
No arrests were made.
• A 64 year-old woman of Old Boston Post Road was issued a citation at 5:39 p.m. for creating a public disturbance.
• A 17 year-old was issued citation at 10:35 p.m. for failure to obey a stop sign violation of passenger restrictions imposed on a 16 or 17 year-old driver following a motor vehicle stop on Saltaire Drive at Hartlands Drive. In the same incident a 16 year-old was issued citation for possession of tobacco under the age of 18.
Saturday, June 9
• A 49 year-old man of Sheffield Cove Road was arrested at 12:12 a.m. and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs and traveling unreasonably fast following a motor vehicle stop on Middlesex Turnpike near Interstate 95.
• A 63 year-old man of Bronx, New York was arrested at 11:59 a.m. and charged with cruelty to animals.
• A 15 year-old was arrested at 8:18 p.m. and charged with assault in the third degree and disorderly conduct.
• A 16 year-old was arrested at 8:48 p.m. and charged with assault in the third degree and disorderly conduct.
Sunday, June 10
No arrests were made.
Monday, June 11
• A 30 year-old New Haven man was arrested at 10:23 a.m. on warrant charging him with breach of peace in the second degree, criminal mischief in the first degree, risk of injury to a minor, conspiracy to commit breach of peace, criminal mischief, and reckless endangerment. The warrants were discovered following a motor vehicle stop on Boston Post Road at Elm Street. During the traffic stop he was issued a misdemeanor summons for operating a motor vehicle while under license or registration suspension, operating a motor vehicle without insurance, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, improper use of marker plate, failure to show license, and having an obstructed view through the windshield.
• A 25 year-old New Britain man was arrested at 4 p.m. on a warrant charging him with failure to appear in the second degree.
• A 42 year-old man of Church Street was arrested at 7:59 p.m. and charged with breach of peace in the second degree under the domestic violence act.
• A 41 year-old New Britain man was issued a misdemeanor summons at 6:01 p.m. for operating a motor vehicle while under license or registration suspension and improper display or marker plate following a motor vehicle stop on Main Street and Boston Post Road.
Tuesday, June 12
• A 61 year-old Preston man was arrested at 12:18 p.m. on a warrant charging him with risk of injury to a minor, breach of peace in the second degree, and harassment in the second degree.
• A 31 year-old Clinton man was issued a misdemeanor summons at 12:02 p.m. for improper use of marker plate following a motor vehicle.
• A 36 year-old man of Old Boston Post Road and a 29 year-old Deep River man were issued citations at 9:48 p.m. Each man was charged with creating a public disturbance at 159 Old Boston Post Road.
Wednesday, June 13
• A 67 year-old Southington man was arrested at 8:56 p.m. and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs and traveling unreasonably fast following a motor vehicle stop on Boston Post Road at Main Street.
• A 53 year-old woman of Ingham Hill Road was issued a misdemeanor summons at 8:47 a.m. for operating a motor vehicle while under license or registration suspension, operating a motor vehicle without insurance, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, and improper use of marker plate.
• A 60 year-old man of Main Street was issued a misdemeanor summons at 9:35 p.m. for operating a motor vehicle not equipped with an ignition interlock device (as required from a prior DUI conviction) and failure to have two headlamps following a motor vehicle stop on Boston Post Road at the railroad bridge.
