New Senior Program Coordinator Starts in Clinton
On May 18, the Town Council unanimously approved Christina Acampora to be the new senior program coordinator. The job has been open for about six months since the previous director resigned.
Last year the town created the part-time position of a senior program coordinator to be a point person for managing initiatives aimed at senior in Clinton. In December 2021, the town officially welcomed Lynn McCarthy to be the first senior program coordinator, but about a month later Town Manager Karl Kilduff announced she resigned due to personal reasons.
Kilduff said at the time that the town would post position again, but cautioned it might be a while before the position is filled. Six months later, the position is full again.
“She brings to the table prior experience in putting together programs,” Kilduff said of Acampora. “More importantly, she has the mindset and understanding of a start-up business needed to build a program for Clinton’s senior citizens. Her prior experience will help in building important community relationships that will lead to programs and activities as well as being able to connect with seniors.”
Kilduff said Acampora was officially set to start June 6.
“The position is part-time to start. Over time, as the program builds, the position is intended to increase in hours,” said Kilduff.
“I’m really looking forward to developing this program and definitely would welcome any feedback from the town’s seniors about what kind of services and fun events would further enrich their lives,” Acampora said. “I’ve lived in Clinton for over a decade now and have made so many meaningful connections. I’m excited to use my background in marketing and planning to give back to this special part of the community of starting her position.”

Under the job description, the program director will work under the town manager to coordinate and be a point person for all programs meant to serve senior population. This includes marketing, coming up with programming, performing outreach to the community to learn their needs, recruiting volunteers, and being the go-to person for all relevant town departments. The coordinator will also provide regular updates on what is happening with the senior population in town.
The idea for the position came out a desire by the Town Council members to better serve the senior population in town. For years some members of the community had complained that senior citizens were underserved in Clinton, especially when compared to what is available in other nearby communities.
Following a December 2020 report by a subcommittee on the needs of seniors in Clinton, the Town Council voted unanimously in January 2021 to establish a job for a senior program coordinator to be included in the 2021-’22 budget.
