New Route 1/Route 22 Roundabout Taking Shape
Work continues on the construction of modern roundabout at Route 1 and Route 22 at the town lines of Branford, North Branford and Guilford, with recent work to place central granite curbing starting to show the shape of the new circulatory roadway to come.
The Connecticut Department of Transportation (DOT) project started work in August 2020 and is scheduled to be completed on October 30, 2021. In announcing the start of the project and its expected completion date, CT DOT also noted motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions.
The project was awarded to Empire Paving, Inc. (North Haven) on May 20, 2020, at a cost of $2,957,573.34 and is being implemented by the state to improve safety and alleviate peak hour traffic congestion.
With some alternating lane use as directed, traffic continues to traverse Route 1 (East Main Street and Boston Post Road) and Route 22 (Notch Hill Road) during construction hours and after hours. CT DOT advises motorists to remain alert, to maintain a safe speed, and to utilize caution when driving in this vicinity.
