Brockett, Dunbar Announce Campaign for Branford First Selectman and Selectman
March 10, 2021: Today, RTM Minority Leader Tom Brockett and Second Selectman Ray Dunbar announced their campaign for Branford First Selectman and Selectman.
Tom Brockett is presently serving his second term representing the 7th District on the RTM where he leads the Democratic caucus as Minority Leader. A graduate of Branford High School, he is a lifelong town resident. After graduating from Wesleyan University and UCONN Law School, he pursued a career in the practice of Labor Law and is now retired. Tom played baseball and shared his love of the game with generations of Branford children serving as coach, umpire, and President of Branford Little League. A Vietnam Veteran, he is a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Tom and his wife Carolyn raised three children who are all graduates of the Branford school system.
"I am thrilled to announce that I will be running for First Selectman of Branford with Second Selectman Ray Dunbar on my team," said Tom Brockett. "Branford has given my family and me so much and I am excited for the opportunity to give back by serving as First Selectman. In the coming months, Ray and I will lay out our vision for how to strengthen the town we love. I look forward to speaking with residents - Democrats, Republicans, and Independents - about your ideas."
Ray Dunbar, who presently serves as Second Selectman and is a former Branford Police Captain, has expressed his enthusiasm about the ticket. "I have seen up close the many areas we can improve Branford. With Tom's leadership as First Selectman, we can strengthen Branford and make our town a more attractive place to live, raise a family and retire. Tom and I humbly ask for your consideration to serves as the next leaders of the town we have called home for our entire lives."
Ray currently serves as second selectman and has provided a lifetime of service to our town and country. Ray, too, is a Navy veteran. He was one of Branford's first EMTs, and a volunteer firefighter with Co. 5 in Stony Creek. Ray worked for the Branford Police Department for 34 years and recently retired as captain. Ray served as an elected member of the RTM from 1997-2005 and again from 2017-2019. Ray knows Branford. Ray and his wife Cindy live in Stony Creek. They and their two daughters all graduated from the Branford School System.
