Branford Students Participate in Day on the Hill
Students from Branford High School recently attended the Connecticut Association of Boards of Education’s (CABE) annual Day on the Hill event in which they, along with principals, superintendents, school board members, parents, and other students from across the state, convened to voice their opinions and meet with legislators regarding education in Connecticut.
The day began with a briefing of issues at the Bushnell’s Autorino Great Hall, including the governor’s proposed budget and its effect on local school districts, with CABE and the legislative leadership. Remarks were made by Lieutenant Governor Nancy Wyman; state senators Beth Bye, Toni Boucher, and Gayle Slossberg; and Representative Andy Fleischmann. Attendees then visited one-on-one with their legislators at the State Legislative Office Building.
Representing Branford schools were students Katie Spaulding, Keira Integlia, Ian Bergemann, Daly Hynes, EJ Lee, Sophie Spencer, teacher Jennifer Kordek, and Branford Board of Education member John Prins.
