Teenaged Father Charged with Manslaughter
Clinton Police have arrested a teenager for manslaughter after they say he was responsible for the the death of his eight-week old daughter.
Police responded to a home in Clinton in March 2013 after receiving a report that the infant was not breathing. Emergency personnel arrived on the scene and began administering live-saving intervention. The infant was later air-lifted to Yale-New Haven Hospital.
During the investigation, medical staff at Yale New Haven Hospital notified Clinton Police that the infant had been admitted with life threatening injuries that were consistent with Shaken Baby Syndrome.
Police identified the parents of the infant as a 16 year-old female and a 17 year-old male, both of Clinton. The father was identified as the sole suspect in the case.
After several days in the Intensive Care Unit, the infant succumbed to her injuries and died. The medical examiner indicated that the cause of death was blunt head trauma and the death was ruled as a homicide.
The infant's father was arrested in Columbia, South Carolina where he had been living with family members and extradicted to Clinton. Police in South Carolina charged him with being a fugitive from justice.
The suspect is being held on a $750,000 bond and is charged with manslaughter in the first degree. He is in the custody of the Juvenile Detention Center in Hartford and is awaiting his court appearance.
