BEE among the First to Register
Gather the hive-it's time to register for the eighth annual Guilford Fund for Education (GFFE) Adult Spelling Bee.
The big bee is set for Friday, April 25 at 7 p.m. in the Guilford High School (GHS) auditorium. A community favorite, the annual contest packs the house with supporters cheering on comically clad teams from all sectors of the community-businesses, non-profits, school groups, government officials, neighborhoods, and more-as they compete in "swarms" to spell their way to winning the coveted Best of the Hive trophy.
Each team needs three adult members; the entry fee is a contribution of $225 ($200 if registered before April 1). Proceeds from the bee help further the cause of GFFE, a non-profit committed to fostering innovation and excellence in learning for all Guilford students through its grant program.
As always, viewing of the bee is free and open to the public.
"The bee is a great way to promote your business or civic group, as well as let the community know you support education in Guilford," said GFFE 2014 Bee Co-Chair Brenda Gorman. "We also have lots of teams of friends participate who themselves love the event and supporting the GFFE."
Last year, 48 different teams created a wave excitement as the contest played out before a full house at GHS.
The bee this year will once again buzz with activities all night as teams compete to win prizes for Best Costume, Best Team Name, and Most Spirited. Audience participation is encouraged, too, with audience prizes awarded. The night is also a great one-stop entertainment event, with a food court, music, and a raffle rolled in.
Businesses and citizens can also support the event by becoming a Bee Sponsor. In addition, GFFE is seeking volunteers who can help on the night of the bee.
