Scott Jeffrey Named EES Principal
ESSEX - The Essex Elementary School Board of Education has selected Scott Jeffrey as the school's new principal. He will replace Joanne Beekley, who was named assistant superintendent of schools for the Region 4 school district last month.
Jeffrey is a Connecticut native, however, he comes to his new position here from an elementary school in South Carolina, at which he served as assistant principal for two years. He will begin his official post as principal before the start of the 2012-2013 school year.
Prior to his experience as assistant principal in Clover, South Carolina, Jeffrey was a teacher in the Connecticut school districts of Kensington and Farmington, as well as South Carolina. In addition to teaching grades 4, 5, and 6 and at the middle school levels, Jeffrey served as athletic director.
According to a news release from Superintendent of Schools Dr. Ruth Levy, "Jeffrey achieved the prestigious designation as a nationally board certified teacher. He has strong communication skills that have created a culture of collaboration for continuous school improvement and student success."
Jeffrey received his bachelor of science degree in physical education from Central Connecticut State University and his master's degree in elementary education from the University of Hartford. He also holds a master's degree in educational administration from the University of South Carolina.
"The Essex Elementary School Board of Education was impressed with Jeffrey's overall knowledge, integrity, compassion, and commitment to excellence; exceptional personal style; and enthusiasm for elementary school students. The Board of Education unanimously endorsed Jeffrey on July 12, following an in-depth interview. We are confident that Jeffrey will provide excellent leadership in continuing the vision and mission of Essex Elementary School," Levy said.
Beekley, Essex Elementary School's previous principal for almost a decade, was named assistant superintendent for the Region 4 school district in June. Earlier this year, the Deep River Board of Education named Jennifer Byars as the new principal at that elementary school. She succeeds Dr. Jack Pietrick, who retired at the close of this past school year.
