Guilford Scouts Tour Includes Surprise Visit from Malloy
What started out as a trip to the State Capitol to learn about citizenship turned into a memorable meeting with Governor Dannel Malloy for an excited group of Guilford Scouts.
On Nov. 8, Guilford Pack 475 Cub Scouts traveled to the heart of Hartford's political home as part of their work toward earning a Citizenship Pin. The Webelos Scouts (grades 4 and 5), who are also studying civics in school, got a history and civics lesson from staff as they toured the Capitol and State Supreme Court buildings. While checking out the House of Representatives, they spotted a very familiar face, said mom Christi Burton.
"Being in the right place at the right time, the boys were able to chat with Governor Dannel Malloy," said Burton, adding the kids also chatted up State Representative Noreen Kokoruda, a Madison resident.
Later in the afternoon, the scouts toured the State Supreme Court and explored the Museum of Connecticut history.
"This proved to be a very memorable day for the boys and parents too," said Burton.
