Guilford Recovers Slowly from Irene's Wrath
Hurricane Irene left Guilford residents picking up the pieces and the town without power for the better part of a week after she decamped.
All over town streets, were lined with fallen trees, or evidence that there had been a fallen tree, and downed wires. Poles were damaged or broken along North Madison Road by the Guilford Lakes Golf Course; leaving the road completely closed to all travelers.
At one point, a fallen tree was resting against electrical wires across the street on Rte. 77, forcing cars to play limbo in order to get into town. The tree was removed earlier in the week.
