This is an important emergency announcement relating to Hurricane Irene. As you may know, Gov. Malloy has declared a State of Emergency for the entire state. Your Board of Selectmen has likewise declared a local emergency for Madison. It is extremely likely that some neighborhoods will be flooded. Please see the evacuation information on the town's website. www.madisonct.org People located in these areas are therefore requested to evacuate your home by sundown Saturday. If you do not have another place to go, we are offering emergency shelter at the town gym on the town campus.
Winds in excess of 50 miles per hour are expected by midnight Saturday and in excess of 100 miles per hour by sunrise Sunday, accompanied by major wave action and flooding. If you have not left by midnight Saturday, we may not be able to help you should you have an unsafe situation later on.
