Chestnut Hills Concerts Series Wraps Up with Aug. 26 Performance
Chestnut Hills Concerts artistic director Ronald Thomas will be joined by Steven Copes, Maiya Papach, and Benjamin Hochman for the season finale of Chestnut Hill Concerts on Friday, Aug. 26 at 8 p.m. at The Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center, 300 Main St., Old Saybrook.
Music will be by Tsontaki, Brahms, and Fauré. Violinist Steven Copes, violist Maiya Papach, cellist Ronald Thomas, and pianist Benjamin Hochman will perform.
George Tsontakis is one of America's most honored composers, and his "Knicknacks" for Violin and Viola, written in 2001, begin the August 26 program. These five character pieces have colorful titles such as "Fandango Façade" and "Bumpkinesque." Johannes Brahms's E minor Cello Sonata, completed over a three-year period in which entire movements were discarded and rewritten, completes the first half. The entire ensemble of four musicians take the stage for the concert – and season – finale, Gabriel Fauré's Piano Quartet in C minor, an exquisite work by one of France's most subtle, refined, and perhaps underrated composers.
The concert on Aug. 26 is sponsored by Bill and Loulie Canady. The Kids and Teens Come Free! program is sponsored by Judith Fisher. The Media sponsor is WSHU Public Radio. Chestnut Hill Concerts is supported by a generous grant from the Connecticut Commission on Culture and Tourism.
Tickets are $30 for orchestra seats and $25 for the balcony. Children and teenagers admitted free when accompanied by an adult.
