Branford Police Unveil New Ghost Traffic Car
Branford Police have added a second stealth police vehicle to their fleet which will be used specifically for the reduction of car wrecks in the community.
The vehicle, a 2010 Ford Taurus with subdued police markings, hit Branford's roadways yesterday being operated by Officer Bryan McGinnis, who is assigned to the department's traffic squad. Within minutes Officer McGinnis had conducted a motor vehicle stop and issued the operator an infraction for aggressive driving behavior including Following to Close.
"Over the past several years our Traffic Division has been successful in reducing traffic wrecks by 80% along the Route 1 corridor." said Chief John DeCarlo, "This vehicle will give them the ability to keep up our successful mission of making Branford a safer place to drive."
Over the past year Officers Richard Kenny and Bryan McGinnis, who are assigned to the traffic squad have conducted approximately 3,000 traffic stops and issued more than 2,700 citations.
Chief DeCarlo continued, "These officers are directed into 'hot spot' areas by weekly vehicle crash statistics and are issuing citations that are found to be contributing factors for the wrecks. Our stealth vehicles allow officers to target these behavioral causes"
Citations issued by the officers include Distracted Driving, Failure to Obey Overhead Control Signals, and Stop Signs, Following to Close and Illegal Lane Changes.
