Sen. Daily to Serve on Budget and Tax Committee at CSG
State Senator Eileen M. Daily (D-Westbrook), Senate Chair of the legislature's Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee, has been appointed by Senate President Pro Tempore Donald E. Williams, Jr. (D-Brooklyn) to serve on the Budget and Tax Committee of the Eastern Regional Conference of the Council of State Governments (CSG).
CSG functions primarily as an information clearinghouse for states, U.S. Territories, and Canadian Provinces, and government officials use it to brainstorm and share information about public policy initiatives. Senator Daily's appointment is effective immediately and runs through December, 2012.
"Your experience and knowledge will certainly be of great value to the work of this Committee," Senator Williams wrote in his letter notifying Senator Daily of her appointment. "Thank you for serving in this important capacity."
"I'm very fortunate to have this opportunity to compare and contrast Connecticut's fiscal condition with that of so many other states, territories, and provinces to trade potential remedies with other government leaders about how to bridge the gap between government's many responsibilities and government's ability to afford those responsibilities," Senator Daily said. "There is no cookie-cutter formula to apply across-the-board for all governments; instead each gets the opportunity to consider some combination of what has and has not worked elsewhere."
Senator Daily said the value of exchanging ideas cannot be understated because there will be a wealth of experience and useful information available at each CSG meeting.
"As economic conditions change and as more information becomes available the value of this network will increase, because each government will be called upon to respond to new circumstances without the luxury of additional time to study or consider possible ramifications," Senator Daily added. "The other advantage of meeting with Eastern Regional Conference counterparts is that we have so much in common already, in terms of climate, economic history, and demographics, we should be able to identify plenty of common ground to turn around this economic slowdown with a stronger regional economy focused on our common interests."
Senator Daily is serving her tenth term in the General Assembly.
