Solito
Solito
by Javier Zamora
This book is absolutely impossibly unforgettable! Zamora, a gifted poet, movingly takes us back to when he migrated to the United States from El Salvador by himself (with a group of strangers) when he was 9 years old. Through the eyes and observations of a little boy, I felt every single thing, the intense fear, the overwhelming smells, the never-ending thirst, the inescapable dirt, and the kindness of his fellow travelers, the incomprehension of the border agents who barely spoke Spanish, and the brutal coyotes he was forced to trust. We can’t talk about immigration without books like this.
