Volunteers Needed to Help People Learn to Read, Write, Speak English
Literacy Volunteers Valley Shore (LVVS) is seeking volunteers to help with its mission of teaching residents of the shoreline area learn how to read, write, and speak English to help improve their work skills, their lives, along with their families, employers, and the community at large.
LVVS is now accepting applications for individuals to become volunteer English tutors and to attend its spring 2021 Virtual New Tutor Training Workshop.
The workshop is a 12-hour program conducted over eight facilitated sessions. The virtual workshop will include a review of prepared materials presented by a workshop leader as well as group discussions and exercises. The next training workshop begins Thursday, April 8 and runs through Thursday, May 13.
Potential tutors choose either the morning sessions from 9:30 to 11 a.m. or the evening sessions from 7 to 8:30 p.m. A $35 donation is requested to help offset the cost of materials. Those interested in becoming a tutor can obtain an application at www.lvvs.org. For more information about the program contact the LVVS office at 860-399-0280 or jargersinger@lvvs.org.
