Stony Creek’s Legacy Theatre Hosting Gala at Goodspeed Terris in Chester
The Legacy Theatre is hosting a gala entitled Music of the Night featuring a live orchestra and Broadway performers at Goodspeed’s Terris Theatre in Chester on Saturday, Sept. 24 to benefit the Legacy Theatre and the restoration of the historic Stony Creek Puppet House in the Stony Creek section of Branford.
The Legacy Theatre was established in June 2011 to create a professional resident repertory theater and theatrical training, to bring Broadway talent to the shoreline for residencies and workshops, and to advance the process of restoring an historic facility for our community. In March 2013, Legacy succeeded in purchasing the 1903 Stony Creek Puppet House theater, marking the third time in its 110-year history to change hands. The Stony Creek Puppet House was in immediate danger of being destroyed or re-purposed.
Since its purchase, professionals have been working steadily to obtain approvals and are now finalizing designs to outfit this historic building with a theater fit to reflect its heritage as well as the vision The Legacy maintains: to be a premier arts house for Legacy’s professional theater company and visiting artists from the Broadway community, and to ensure ongoing seasons of uplifting, inspiring, and challenging professional theater and theater training for all.
Since its inception, grants have come in from the Branford Community Foundation, Community Foundation for Greater New Haven, Connecticut Trust for Historic Preservation and 1772 Foundation, New Alliance Foundation, and Department of Economic and Community Development, as well as hundreds of private foundations, corporations, and individuals.
The fourth annual Legacy Gala at the Terris Theatre in Chester is sponsored by the two-time Tony-Award winning Goodspeed Operahouse. The gala is a black tie event and includes a reception, silent auction, heavy hors d’oeuvres, and musical entertainment honoring the music of Rodgers and Hammerstein and Andrew Lloyd Webber, performed by an orchestra and singers from the Legacy Theatre and Broadway stage.
