Thanks to All
This letter is in response to the kind words written by Ellen and Mike Ebert regarding the Repair Cafe ("An Exceptional Event," Dec. 21). I was one of the fixers who volunteered, and I would like to thank all those who entrusted us with their patients. I believe the overall success rate for repairs was very good. Sadly, not all patients could be repaired. Upon closely examining the internal circuit board, I had to call "time of death" on a window fan that had that aroma of burnt electronics. Given its age, I recommended the family not buy that brand again! However, I was happy to have helped an elderly gentleman resurrect the remote for his late-model ceiling fan, which would have required complete replacement had the remote repair not been successful. I look forward to volunteering again when the next Repair Cafe is scheduled.
