Should Take Precedence
Martha Moody’s Letter to the Editor in the Dec. 14 edition of the Valley Courier (“Improve Pedestrian Safety”) was right on target. Because almost none of it’s bordered by a sidewalk, the Westbrook Road from Cumberland Farms to Bokum Plaza area is unquestionably the most dangerous in town for pedestrians. More than once, I’ve seen two-way traffic have to come to a dead stop to allow people walking to get by.
She also mentioned the Dennison Road bridge over Route 9 as another area of concern for pedestrian safety. In addition, the Centerbrook end of the bridge is a dangerous traffic pinch-point. It’s especially hazardous because traffic coming from opposite directions has limited vision of approaching vehicles.
These are the areas that should take precedence for future public highway funding in Essex.
