I am writing in support of Haifa Jalil for the Westbrook Board of Education. Serving on the Board of Education requires a strong understanding of both our community and our schools. As a Westbrook resident for decades and a parent who saw her children flourish in this town’s schools and offerings, Haifa has a deep appreciation for Westbrook.

Her experience as a professional educator provides her with important insight into the various forces impacting public education in 2023. Haifa has worked as a science teacher in Westbrook and, more recently, in New Haven. She completed her Ph.D. in education and educational leadership and continues to teach while also working on curriculum development and training of newer teachers. Haifa’s graduate dissertation was on the topic of how student’s relationships with their high school teachers affect their college success. What better experience could there be for our schools and community?

On a personal note, Haifa has been a good neighbor to me. She is thoughtful, welcoming, compassionate, and energetic. Westbrook’s Board of Education needs Haifa Jalil to continue their vital work. I ask you to join me in voting for Haifa Jalil on Tuesday, Nov. 7
