A Sobering Discussion
The inhumane treatment of prisoners of war in Ukraine was brought home, to Branford, during the “Still Standing with Ukraine ‘‘ event held at the Blackstone Library on March 6, in honor of International Women’s Day (March 8). Thanks to the Women’s Political Salon and Branford resident and journalist Iryna Solomko Bonenberger for hosting the sobering discussion with Lyudmila Huseynova and Anna Olsen, and to the Media Initiative for Human Rights for sponsoring their speaking tour in the U.S. The eye-opening, first-person accounts shared by the two Ukrainian women, held captive by the Russians in deplorable conditions, gave us insight into the torture that they, and unfortunately, thousands of others, have suffered as Ukraine continues to fight for its freedom. The event was recorded and will be shown on BCTV. I urge you to watch, and listen.
