Deep Gratitude is Extended
This year marked the 70th anniversary of the North Haven Lions Club and its service to North Haven. During the Lions’ year that ended June 30m we volunteered 1,058 hours of community service and conducted 125 service activities serving 7,342 people. But our deep gratitude is extended to you, the residents of North Haven for your continued generosity and support for our projects.
At our Second Saturday Service events, you donated approximately 3,000 pounds of food to be shared between the North Haven Community Services food bank and the Ecumenical food bank at the North Haven Congregational Church; you donated 1,860 pairs of eyeglasses that will be recycled to people living in low- and middle-income countries who lack access to basic eye care services; and you also provided countless bags and boxes of towels, blankets, and pet food and treats—including peanut butter and canned pumpkin—that were shared between the Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation and our own Animal Haven. You donated two van-loads of clothing and personal care items for Veterans Stand Down.
Since 2017, you trusted us to come to the elementary schools and provide vision screening to find children’s vision problems. This past year we screened 1,155 children and recommended that 129 [12 percent] see an eye care professional for a complete examination.
The North Haven Lions Club is part of Lions Clubs International (LCI), the world’s largest humanitarian service organization with 1.4 million members worldwide. Concern for hunger, vision, the environment, childhood cancer, and diabetes awareness, are LCI’s primary goals; and the North Haven Lions and Leo Clubs are involved in many of these projects for our community.
