I write to express my voice in hopes that fellow residents of our town will read these words with the intention of broadening their understanding of our lived experiences over the past years and decide to think hard about whom they vote for this Nov. 2. Being a member of the LGBTQ+ minority in North Haven who has struggled privately over the past decade for simple recognition by the greater community, I must say now is the time for us all to step forward and speak, regardless of age, race, sexual orientation, gender, religious beliefs, national origin and more.
Your readers have a powerful voice in North Haven, a real chance to transform this town on election day. Representation matters; inclusion matters. We need a partner in local leadership who helps everyone and hears them, really hears them. I want to thank Carl Kordek of the North Haven Democrats for releasing statements that support and express the reality of the LGBTQ+ community in town. He has been there for us countless times over the years, including most recently at Pridefest in North Haven this past weekend listening to our stories and shared experiences. Carl is someone who continually strives for inclusion and diversity in North Haven, and he truly listens to us.
Over the past decade, we as LGBTQ+ residents have played a limited role in local government. We have elected the same leaders year after year, but now is the time to change that. I write today in support for new leadership this town of North Haven deserves. Carl Kordek as first selectman is what we need for today, tomorrow, and the future.
