The coronavirus crisis has nearly halted the local economy — including media advertising. That means local, independent news organizations such as ours must fight for our own survival while continuing to provide critical news and information as a public service during this unprecedented situation. If you believe local reporting is important and you're able to lend support during this pandemic, click here for info on making a tax-deductible donation.

I’d like to thank Tracy Everson, our brand-new RTM member from the 5th District, for alerting the town that many Branford residents were unaware that our municipal emergency notification system had changed. Tracy spoke up at the last RTM meeting and Fire Chief Mahoney, the town’s emergency management director, took action.
Resident who had previously signed up for Branford alerts need to re-register by signing up at www.ctalert.gov or texting their zip code to 888-777.
As someone who has been involved with local emergency preparedness in Connecticut, I know how important those alerts can be. I encourage Tracy to keep up the great work!
