I write this letter in support of the candidacy of Matthew Pugliese for the 23rd District representative.
I first met Matt when he was executive director of the Oddfellows Playhouse in Middletown and I was part of the Middlesex County Community Foundation grants process. I was immediately impressed by his enthusiasm for the playhouse, and its mission to serve young people through the arts. He was not only passionate, but clearly intelligent; knowledgeable, but at the same time realistic in a difficult time for non-profits.
After this election, we are going to have a new governor and who knows who will control the Legislature. This is the critical time when the State of Connecticut needs legislators who are independent and can cross party lines, who are realistic, and who have a willingness to compromise to attain their goals. Matt has these qualities, and most important, I am confident his goals will be our goals.
To paraphrase an old saying, he is not going to please all of his constituents all of the time. No one can. But he will bring needed talents to the Legislature. I am sure he will be a standout there as he has in each step of his professional career and as he has in his service in local government as member and chair of the Old Saybrook Economic Development Commission.
I encourage my fellow residents of the 23rd District to give Matt’s candidacy serious consideration. He is worthy of our votes.
