Will Champion the Environment
Electing Christine Cohen will continue the 12th State Senate District’s proud tradition of leadership on environmental issues.
I am a Guilford resident and a board member of the Connecticut League of Conservation Voters, which endorses both Republicans and Democrats who will work for and champion the environment, not just talk about it. We have endorsed Christine Cohen for the 12th District Senate race for her strong positions on the environment and her record of taking steps to make her own business green.
Many of us are drawn to live and work here because of Long Island Sound and the area’s beautiful woods and rich working farmland. The Guilford Land Conservation Trust, of which Cohen is a member, owns and protects more than 3,000 acres of conservation land, which is the most in the state.
Not coincidentally, the two previous 12th District senators, Ed Meyer and Ted Kennedy, Jr., were the Senate chairs of the legislature’s important Environment Committee. Christine joins them in understanding that the prosperity of Guilford and the surrounding 12th District towns are inextricably linked with our environmental assets; that if climate change is not acknowledged and dealt with, our coastal communities will be inordinately impacted by sea level rise and increasing storms; and that protecting and enhancing the 12th District’s open space will protect and enhance our well-being and quality of life.
Christine has said that if she is elected, she will seek to be appointed to the Senate Environment Committee. That would be great for Guilford and the entire 12th District.
